Countdown to the Baja España Aragón

For its 40th edition, the Baja España Aragón will once again break the record for the number of entries. There will be just over 270 teams in the different categories (cars, motorbikes, trucks, SSV, and Parabaja) taking part in the only Spanish round of the FIA World Baja Cup on the 26th to 28th July.

In eleventh consecutive edition of the event in Teruel and over three days of competition (Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, and Sunday 28th), all crews will face the 522 timed kilometres that will cross 35 municipalities of the Jiloca region.

In the car category, Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Al Rajhi will race in Teruel to cut points from the leader of the FIA World Baja Cup after the first two rounds (Saudi Arabia and Greece), Argentina’s Fernando Álvarez.

During the 40th edition, the rival to beat will once again be Nasser Al-Attiyah, who will be driving a T3 category vehicle for the first time. Scoring his seventh victory in the Baja España Aragón will be a major challenge for the Qatari with a vehicle of this type.

Other big names in this year’s edition of the Baja España Aragón will be Portugal’s Joao Ferreira, Argentina’s Juan Cruz Yacopini, and France’s Mathieu Serradori, all of them with T1+ cars. Within the Spanish representation, the presence of Daniel Alonso with a Ford Ranger T1+ and Santiago Carnicer, strong candidates for victory in the Spanish Off-Road Rally Championship, stand out. Carnicer arrives as leader with a 57-point gap over Federico Guillermo Mogni and María Luis Gameiro.

Schareina, the favourite in the bike category

In the motorbike category, the Baja España Aragón will be the third race of the series in which Mohammed Al Balooshi is the leader with just two points ahead of Honda’s Portuguese rider Pedro Bianchi Prata.

In Teruel, the World Cup leader will face two of the favourites for victory, the Spaniards Tosha Schareina (winner of the last two editions) and Lorenzo Santolino.

In the Spanish Cross-Country Rally Championship, Javier Vega will be looking to consolidate his lead in the overall classification. The rider from Madrid will arrive in Aragón with a gap of 26 points over Guillem Martínez. In the quad category, the rival to beat will once again be Dani Vilà this year.

For the third consecutive year, the Baja España Aragón will be attended by a dozen teams taking part in the Trail and Maxi Trail categories, including Javier Sola, Alberto Yañez, and Joan Pedrero.

Macik, the rival to beat in trucks

In the truck category, thirteen teams will take part in the Baja España Aragón this weekend. Czech Martin Macik is the driver to beat once again this year. The strongest rival of the three-time winner in Teruel will be the Spanish crew of Javier Maizcurrena, Ángel Irribarren and Facundo Vitoria, who won the 2023 edition with the IVECO.

On Wednesday, 24th July, the Baja España Aragón will start with the administrative and technical scrutineering. All the information about the race can be found at www.bajaaragon.com.
