DE MEVIUS AND SCHAREINA DOMINATE IN PROLOGUE

The 40th edition of the Baja España Aragón has started with Guillaume de Mevius in the car category and Tosha Schareina in the bike category being the fastest in Friday’s prologue that set the starting order for the first of the two stages on Saturday.

Belgian de Mevius showed his podium credentials this weekend in Teruel by setting the fastest time in the prologue at the wheel of a Toyota Hilux. The Overdrive driver was the only one to clock a time under four minutes on the stage, six seconds and three tenths ahead of Yazeed Al-Rajhi, second in the FIA Cross Country Baja World Cup. The third fastest time went to Portugal’s Joao Ferreira in a Mini John Cooper.

Nasser Al-Attiyah was also in the top 10 at the end of the prologue. The six times winner of the Baja España showed a great pace with the Taurus and even outpaced Nani Roma, who is competing in Teruel with the Ford Ranger T1+ of the Past Racing team.

In the evening, the top ten in the car category chose their starting positions for tomorrow’s stage. Mathieu Serradori will be the first to start, followed by Rokas Baciuska in second position. Today’s winner, Guillaume de Mevius will start from fifth position while Nasser Al-Attiyah will start tenth.

Schareina is the best among the bikes

In the motorbike category, Tosha Schareina was fastest in the prologue with the Honda, three seconds and six tenths ahead of Martim Carreira and were four seconds and five tenths from Edgar Canet, both on the KTM.

In the FIM Quad World Cup, Dani Vilà was the fastest in the first kilometers of the Baja España Aragón, beating Jerome Connart by two seconds and three and Toni Vingut by twelve seconds and five tenths.

In the truck category, Martin Macik won the prologue ahead of Javier Mariezcurrena, with a gap of eleven and a half seconds at the finish line. Third place went to Richard de Groot.

The first two timed special stages of the Baja España Aragón will take place on Saturday. The car and truck categories will start at 7.43am on the first 163km stage, while the motorbike and quad categories will start at 7.07am on the 181km Torrijo del Campo-Gea de Albarracín special stage.
