RECORD NUMBER OF TEAMS IN THE BAJA SPAIN

271 teams will take part in the XXXIX edition of the Baja Spain, a record number of participants in this event, which is the only one in Spain that counts towards the FIA Cross Country World Cup and the FIM World Cup.

In its tenth consecutive edition in Teruel and throughout the two days of competition (Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd), all of them will face the more than 500 timed kilometres of an event that has one of the most spectacular entries in recent years.

In the car category, the top three in the World Cup will be in Teruel. Nasser Al-Attiyah will be looking for his third consecutive victory in the Baja Aragón, which has also become one of the key events in his sporting programme prior to the Dakar Rally.  The Qatari arrives as leader of the World Cup after the first three races of the season, which have resulted in two victories in Saudi Arabia and Qatar and a second place in Italy.

Another of the big names will be the Argentinean Juan Cruz Yacopini and the Saudi Yazeed Al Rajhi, winner of the last Baja Italia. Both will be looking for more points to keep them in Al-Attiyah’s wake.

Nani Roma, the driver with the most victories in Aragon, will be back in this edition at the head of an ambitious project with M-Sport that will allow him to fight for victory with the Ford Ranger T1+.  It will be his debut in a head-to-head battle with his main rivals in the next edition of the Dakar.

Rivals like the luxury trio chosen by Audi, who will make their debut this year on the Baja Spain. Carlos Sainz, Stephane Peterhansel and Mattias Ekström form a first-class team for the launch of the Audi RS E-Tron in Spain.

Isidre Esteve, Laia Sanz, Romain Dumas (three times winner of the 24h of Le Mans), are some of the other big names in a Baja España that also counts towards the Spanish Off-Road Rally Championship.

Félix Macías, Santiago Carnicer and Daniel Alonso are three of the main favourites to win the fourth event of the season after the events held in Mar de Olivos, Extremadura and Lorca.

Schareina, to repeat his victory in 2022

Tosha Schareina will once again be one of the favourites in the motorbike category after his victory last year. To repeat his 2022 victory, the Honda rider will have to beat the top contender, Mohammed Al Balooshi, who arrives in Teruel as the leader of the World Cup. Lorenzo Santolino and the Portuguese Rui Gonçalves, second and third classified last year in the Baja España are once again in the list of contenders for the final podium.

For the second consecutive year, the Baja Spain will host the Trail and Maxi Trail categories, with more than twenty participants, including Joan Pedrero, who will be back on a Harley Davidson.

This Thursday, administrative and technical checks will take place for all the teams before the competition gets underway early on Friday morning with the 5-kilometre prologue, which will serve as an aperitif for the first stage of almost 180 kilometres
