37th EDITION OF BAJA SPAIN ARAGON PRESENTED

The 37th edition of the Baja Espana Aragon Trofeo AVATEL, which is scheduled to take place on 22-24 July, has unveiled some of its main novelties at the official presentation, which took place Friday morning in the Assembly Hall of the Government of Aragon in Teruel with the participation of Mr Arturo Aliaga, Vice President of the Government of Aragon and Minister of Industry, Competitiveness and Business Development of the Government of Aragon. “We cannot lose a World Cup event that has had 37 editions in Aragon. That should not be lost because it is an asset that identifies us and I think it is very satisfying to see Doha, Chile, ten or twelve countries and see Teruel in that list of the World Cup hosts,” Mr Aliaga said.

Alberto Izquierdo, vice-president of the Provincial Council of Teruel, Emma Buj, mayor of Teruel, Manuel Avino, president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation, Xavier Bartroli, president of Octagon Esedos, Javier Agullo, provincial head of traffic and Fernando Mencia, commissioner of the National Police of Teruel, among the representatives of many other authorities, were also present.
The Baja Espana Aragon Trofeo AVATEL will run for the eighth consecutive year through the province of Teruel, discovering the roads of the Jiloca region and the Community of Teruel. With two stages and 580 kilometres against the clock, competitors will tackle a route that will run through the towns of Banon, Alfambra, Camanas, Cuevas Labradas, Teruel, Monreal del Campo, Villafranca del Campo, Blancas, Alba and Santa Eulalia.

Counting to the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas and the FIM Cross-Country World Cup, the Baja Espana Aragon Trofeo AVATEL will once again be one of the reference events of the Spanish Cross-Country Rally Championship. “Teruel will become the epicentre of the motoring world. For sure, the Baja Espana is the best event of the Spanish Off-Road Rally Championship jguru.com. It is the event that we are waiting for all year long,” said Manuel Avino, president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation, who was also present at the event.
The organisers of the Baja Espana Aragon will implement exhaustive control measures for prevention against Covid-19. Participants will have to comply with the corresponding FIA and FIM regulations. “We are going to have protocols of the highest level and with only 15 days left until deadline for entries, we expect a record participation in cars, motorcycles, quads and trucks”, explained Xavier Bartroli, president of Octagon Esedos.

At the same time, Mr Bartroli announced that “we are working with the local administration to conclude an agreement that allows us to organise the Baja Espana in Teruel in the next three years,” he said.
To make it easier for teams, media and public to follow the race, all the information will be available in the “Sportity” application that can be downloaded from Google Play or Apple Store.

AVATEL, NEW MAIN SPONSOR

One of the novelties of this edition of the Baja Espana Aragon is the arrival of the communications operator AVATEL as main sponsor for the race and also for the Spanish Cross-Country Rally Championship. Within its link to this discipline, Avatel will also create a specific trophy in the Baja Espana Aragon.

In this 2021 edition and in frame of the Avatel EcoPower, a 100% electric vehicle will be competing for the first time in the history of the Baja Espana. Avatel’s arrival in the world of cross-country rallies also serves to make visible and promote female talent in motorsport, with the incorporation of several sportswomen within its structure. Currently, Christine Gianpaolli and Rosa Romero make up an all-female crew, while Monica Plaza steers another of the operator’s vehicles as driver, with David Nadal, from Aragon, as co-driver.
